Shannon Fance (certified pedorthist)

Shannon Fance presented to us about services provided by pedorthists. Pedorthists design, fabricate, fit, and modify shoes and/or foot orthotic devices. They are board-certified professionals with specific education on foot mechanics and orthotic design. Proper gait mechanics (‘the way your feet work’) have a major influence on posture and can contribute greatly to your ability to maintain your spinal adjustment.

The pedorthist provides devices and footwear to assist in:

· Accommodation of foot deformities
· Re-alignment of the foot’s anatomical structures
· Redistribution of the external and internal forces acting on the foot
· Improvement of balance
· Control of the biomechanical function of the foot
· Accommodation of circulatory special requirements
· Enhancement of the actions of limbs compromised as a result of accident, congenital deformity, neural condition, or disease

As one of the few medical professionals educated in the design, fit, manufacture, and modification of footwear and foot orthoses, certified members of the Pedorthic Association of Canada (PAC) are regularly called upon to fill prescriptions and make recommendations involving proper foot support.
